An incredible landscape surrounds the area between San Giovanni D'Asso and Chiusure. This area is famous for the huge contrast between the gentle rolling hills and the "calanchi", sort of canyons and gullies created by clay erosion due to wind, rain and its particular type of soil.
The itinerary's first stop will probably be the most unforgettable of your day.
Lucignano d'Asso is everything you have ever dreamed about when picturing an old village in the heart of the Tuscan Countryside. Old times, traditional life, unspoilt, steeped in history with views to die for.
An old lady, one of the very few residents, runs a small, simple "grocery/wine shop" with few tables in the little square where you enjoy a light lunch/brunch with great cheeses and cured meats, salads or fruit. The place is open from 10 to 18 and closed on Tuesday. Seasonal opening, March to November.
Chiusure and the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore are just 20 min away from Lucignano d'Asso. The drive is stunning, as well as the views and the Abbey. If you didn't stop to eat in Lucignano, then Locanda Paradiso in Chiusure is a greatplace to stop for a freshly made meal.
