Siena

Surrounded by olive groves and the prestigious Chianti vineyards, Siena is one of the most beautiful cities in Tuscany.

Perched on three hills, the city is a succession of charming alleys and steep stone steps. The circular, sloping Piazza del Campo is at the centre, while the majestic Duomo and the imposing Santa Maria della Scala both serve as fascinating historical monuments.

Famous for the “Palio”, the historic horse race held on 2 July and 16 August, it is also home to one of the oldest universities in Europe, which gives the centre a vibrant, youthful atmosphere.
