An incredible landscape surrounds the area between San Giovanni d'Asso and Chiusure.
This area is famous for the huge contrast between the rolling hills and the “calanchi”, a kind of canyon and gullies created by the erosion of clay by wind, rain and its particular type of soil.
The first stage of the itinerary will probably be the most unforgettable of your day.
Lucignano d'Asso is everything you have always imagined, an old village in the heart of the Tuscan countryside. Old times, traditional life, unspoilt, rich in history with breathtaking views.
You are welcomed by a few residents and a small “grocery/ wine shop” with a few tables in the small square where you can enjoy a light lunch/brunch with excellent cheese and cold cuts, salads or fruit. The place is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed on Tuesdays. Seasonal opening, March to November.
Chiusure and the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore are only 20 minutes away from Lucignano d'Asso. The drive is incredible, as are the views and the Abbey.
If you don't stop to eat in Lucignano, then the Locanda Paradiso in Chiusure or the Taverna di Roberto in Montisi (reservation only) are the ideal place to stop for a freshly cooked meal.
